The Storm by Kate Chopin In the story The Storm, Kate Chopin plots a situation in which two people surrender to their physical desires. Chopin wrote fiction stories in the late 19th century. She was condemned due to the immorality presented in her work. At her times, woman was considered to be very innocent, and always faithful to her husband. In Chopins work one sees a totally different view of a womans behavior. She is not a popular writer of her era because of her crude works; the audience of her period could not justify her stories. In the story the storm, Kate Chopin by hiding the immoral behavior of her characters behind the fear of bad weather is being ironic. The writer tries really hard to convince her readers†¦show more content†¦It is ironic in this case because as the writer builds up the plot, she constantly reminds her audience that the storm is very destructive and scary, but later the reader finds that the fear is gone and is replaced by desire. It makes one think that the storm does not only destroy the characters belongings; it destroys the trust and faith on which their marriages were based on. Kate makes her audience go off the track by describing the act of deception. She makes her readers forget that Calixta and Alcee are doing something wrong by getting in to details of their sexual experience. However, if one reads closely they would find that she is being sarcastic again when she makes the remark without guile or trickery. It makes the reader realize that at the Assumption Alcee does not have Calixta because she was a maiden, but now that both of them are married (to different people), does that allow him to have her and is it not still guile? Later in the story, Kate makes the guilty characters look resolute and which made her audience exclaim in detest. Taylor Tuscai Mr. Schoen English II Pre-AP April 28, 2017 â€Å"The Story that Started A Movement† Charlotte Perkins Gilman is widely recognized for her support of feminism and calls for awareness to her mental condition by voicing her ideas through her original writing. One of her works, â€Å"The Yellow Wallpaper†, describes a woman who suffers from severe anxiety and is isolated in a room in order to â€Å"heal† according to her husband. While in the room, she becomes obsessed with the ugly wallpaper, which leads to her fall. Perkins introduces this claim by writing, â€Å"And she is all the time trying to climb through that pattern--it strangles so; I think that is why it has so many heads† (Perkins 6). The author once again discusses the narrator’s visualizations of the trapped women and how they continuously try to break free from the wallpaper. Perkins further conveys that women are suffering from the â€Å"strangling† feeling that comes from male influence and how it leaves womankind in a state of instability to move or breath as an individual. Also, the author includes victorious commentary from the narrator after she escapes from John by saying, â€Å"I’ve got out at last,’ said I, ‘In spite of you and Jane. And I’ve pulled off most of the paper, so you can’t put me back† (Perkins 5). This triumphant exclaim referencing the wallpa per can go two ways. Buying Patterns When looking at my complete journal, I definitely have recognized a couple of buying patterns. The first, and most obvious was the purchase of Struck coffee more and more as the weeks went on. This is partly because of the fact that the seasons have changed and it has been cooler. I also attribute it to the subliminal persuasion using their aroma as pass by the Struck in Ross (Fabian, 53). The second buying pattern that I have recognized is the purchasing late at night on Thursdays and Friday. Those two days are by far the most expensive days of the week for me (Fabian, 328). 6. Post-Recession Consumer The biggest part of the article that pertained to my consumer behavior habits was when it talked about the consumers being more saws and aware of marketing techniques (Gerbera, 3).
